My close friends know I love vintage film from the 1940s-1960s, and people don't really get it but I don't really mind. I've had a love for classic films since I was in middle school ever since I laid my eyes on Audrey Hepburn in the "Roman Holiday". The clothing, music, the "transatlantic accent", and of course the dreamy Gregory Peck bewitched me in an instant, luring me into that zone.
I can go on and on about how much passion I have for that era but today I'm going to stick with one of my favourite Directors, Alfred Hitchcock. He was the master genius of Horror movies, and produced great films such as "Psycho", "Birds", "Rear Window", etc. These films get a lot of love, but today I'm going to briefly mention "Marnie".
"Marnie" futures Sean Connery and Tippi Hedren and it's basically a thriller/suspense film focused on PTSD and well memory. The music used in the film creates this beautiful but anxious ambience, sort of like the movie itself. The metaphors, lighting, angles and so many other details highlight the theme of the movie, so it's the perfect movie to analyse.
Don't forget CLASS. Tippi Hedren herself is such a classic beauty, but the fashion, speech, and movement shouts CLASS; something you don't see in movies nowadays.
I understand that vintage isn't everyone's thing, but sometimes I think it's good to watch old films just to discover new things and to take your mind off of the chaotic era we live in now.
